Keeping, rearing, breeing and feeding Suntiger Tarantula (Psalmopoeus irminia)


Overview

Origin: The Suntiger tarantula (Psalmopoeus irminia) originates from the North Guyana, Brazil and eastern Venezuela. They come from densely gorwn areas, usually in very humid conditions.

Size: As adult, these the Suntiger Tarantula reaches around 6 inches (leg to leg).

Behaviour: These are not to agressive, however, will attempt to bite. Their main form of defense is their ability to run at very high speeds. Because of this, the Suntiger tarantula is not easy, or suitable to handle.

Enclosure and feeding: An ideal enclosure should consist of a 4 gallon tank with about 5 inches of substrate for digging. Furniture such as cork bark, logs, fake platns should be provided. This should be watered twice a week, and also a bowl of water should be provided. The optimum temperature for the enclosure would be around 25c. They will tackle most insects, including crickets, locusts, roaches and many other livefood available in your local pet shop. Adults should be fed 4-6 crickets per week.
