Has it shed recently? If it's slightly green, I've had this before after they've shed, and it looks like it's where the skin has split slightly.

It seems to be the same colour of the actual stick insect and its been there for a while now just after it had its moult. The abscess itself seems to be getting bigger but hopefully the picture will help

Its not an absess, i think it is congeled blood so it must hav damaged its self during shedding

will it eventually fall off or won't it ever, if it doesn't what should i do. Is it dangerous for the stick insect?

It should fall off soon but if it doesnt u might have to help it and it will cause trouble the next time it sheds coz its in the way but as its just shed it has a while to fall off before the next 1

It won't shed anymore because its a fully grown 1

Could also be a parasitic nematode worm.

wat is a parasitic worm, how did they get in my insect, and are they threatening to the stick insect. lastly do these worms cause any harm to humans. But isn't it just frass stuck to dried blood?

Kinda looks like a spermetaphore, havent got any randy males of another species in there with them have you?

wats a spermetaphore?

stickinsect123
06-10-2008, 03:18 PM
Oh i know what u mean. No there all female sticks but i've heard that sometimes individuals like my pink winged can be half male and half female. Maybe thats why the spermetaphore is there

Morpheus_UK

Possibly, what i ment was, was there any other sexual species in there that have males anyway that may of gotten pink wings confused with their females

stickinsect123

No. they are all of the same species all pink winged. Wat do u think it is?

I don't think that's possible as Pink Wings are an all female species and breed parthiogenically.

But the example that i read about was an indian stick insect which was half male and half female and there parthiogenic so it would be possible 4 pink winged too

But however rare male indians are you still get them. I'm pretty sure you just don't get male Pink Wings and I have never ever heard of one so I somehow doubt you could get a Gynandromorph with the Pink Wings. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

I'm almost 100% that there can be male pink winged. Here you go robsorchids made a care sheet it mentions male pink winged there and that they can excist it says they can appear but are very rare

The Paul Brock book I have got mentions something about some Parthenogenic species producing males while in culture (most species have males in the wild) but they are very rare and usually infertile.

Yeh Taz that's right, I just didn't think that any males existed in Pink Wings. Ok, fair enough :) But I still don't think it's a male or a Gynandromorph :P

wat do u think it is?

Theres no size for the Males on the PSG list so males have not been recorded by the PSG as yet.

Is it possible that it is skin that was left stuck to it after it's last moult.
It's possible it was stuck at the final point of molting and this is the remains from it??

Longy

Thats does seem more likely.

stickinsect123

I agree it certainly seems possible because it did appear on its last moult

Morpheus_UK

Maybe then while it moulted it caught itself on a thorn or something and punctured its abdomen, so when it tried to pump itself from its skin it pumped its insides out XP

Yuck! So are u saying its my sticks insides!

Morpheus_UK

I could make an automontage photo of the absess, when the stick insect is dead. Maybe we'll revealing its true nature then. :)

they're not it's insides any more. ;)

it recently died, it was congeiled blood which blocked her system up
