I know they are rare - anyone have a pic or link to one? I either have one or a rather deformed female. I need new batteries but will get a pic ASAP. This one is sub adult, but here/his abdomen looks like all the male of other species I have.

Lele, I've never seen one personally, nor have I seen photos online, nor have I heard of anyone owning one!

Would be interesting to see your pic.

I read it's a 1 in 1000 chance of getting a male Indian. So they are REALLY rare. Apparently they have a red underside and are long and thin. I got this infromation from a website which I thought looked quite reliable.

EDIT
Found the link!

they do exsist, in fact someone was selling some on ebay a few months ago, however even though they occur, they dont appear to actualy mate, and are therefore quite useless!
i think this means this species is naturaly parthenogenetic and has evolved to be that way.

indeed, there is no real point to search for them as they wont breed, but i suppose they could be intresting to observe

Wow! I'm here in the middle of the day :)
Here are the pics of mine - it is a sub adult. It's abdominal tip just looks oddly swollen, more like my male asperrimus or schultei.

Hmm, I can't work out if that could be a male compared to those photos, or if it's an oddly shaped female.

Does he have red on his underside?

It looks like a female with a slightly twisted abdomen i'm afraid :(

I would agree with Mark, but if ur still not sure why not isolate her in her own tank and see if she(or he) lays any eggs, surly if she does then u will know:D

Here is a male indian stick insesct with a female for comparison, this should clear things up a bit. Size alone, and the swelling at the base of the abdomen means youll know for sure if its a male.

Yup, I think you're right. it may be the one that her butt stcuk in the egg. I can't remember if she died, I think she made it so this would make sense.

Doubt it all males in this species are infertile arent they?
