hai X the other day one of my indian stick isnects finally started laying eggs...

i took them out and put them in a small container ontop of a damp cotton wool pad.
i found that they kindof stuck to it and left like.. a browny yellow patch =/
am i doing something wrong.. and what is the brown patch. i really hope i havnt destroyed the eggs =[

also how long would it take for them to hatch... i thought it was about a year.. but that seems like ages X

These brown patches are probably rests of the ground you accidentally took with the eggs. Don't worry, that's normal. Just change the cotton wool every one or two weeks that no mould can grow.
Incubation time is about 3-5 months normally. A year is way too long and happens only in very bad cultures. Okay, sometimes there are some late hatches, but it shouldn't be the average.

Indian ova is extremely easy to hatch, and can hatch in as little as 10 weeks (as I found out after creating a living setup). Just get a well ventilated container with some damp paper towel on the bottom. Put ova onto towel and just ensure that the towel is replaced once any sign of mould appears.

Alternatively you could try Sphagnum Moss as it has some anti fungal properties and also retains moisture fairly well. Spray when it starts looking a little dry on top.

You don't need cotton wool all you need is vermiculite or sand and they don't need to be sprayed.
