View Full Version : Spiny Flower Mantis?

I wonder if someone might help?
I saw this Mantis whilst in The Gambia in February this year. I think it is a Spiny Flower Mantis, but I can't find any photos online that show it this colour.
In the top right of image is what I think may be an exuvium, so perhaps this is newly-emerged?
Any comments appreciated!

First of all beautiful mantis and photo!
Your right it is a spiny flower mantis, cant be sure on which one though.
Captive specimens are always far duller in colour for some reason, wild ones such as that one are much more vibrant :)
By altering humidity and background colour we can get our spiny flower mantids to get a pink tinge, although its pretty dull compared to the near red individuals found out in their natural environment.

Thanks so much - I didn't expect such a quick response! Have to say, compared with the rather ordinary green Mantids I've seen previously this one was a delight. Hard to credit the amazing colours that can be found in nature!
