Should be getting my new laptop in the next day or two. My old Dell stopped working on me and then drastically failed the drop test. So one insurance call later and the pennies were sitting in my bank awaiting me to choose a laptop. I had a grand total of £500 to spend and trying to find the right laptop was a bit of a test, but after viewing what seemed to be hundreds of contenders, I finally got it down to the following two:-

Medion Akoya S5610 (https://www.medionshop.co.uk/?areaID=48103AC95C0F25DAE10000000A00005B&shoplanguage=en) and the Acer Aspire 5920G (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151290).
After a long think about it, and a lot of swapping in-between, I finally decided that power would be a bigger factor than gadget. So I went for the Medion Akoya S5610 as it is a little better in the oomph department than the Acer. Although the Blu-Ray drive did tempt me for a short while the overall performance of the Medion was the deciding factor for me.

It now means I can spend a little more time on the forums without getting grief from my back.

It depends what you want from the laptop. The Medion that I have chosen will quite happily do everything I want, play WoW now that I am back into playing (Taz Devil, Arathor realm), it also becomes a mobile media centre for the little un when away from home for any length of time (DVD player and also Digi TV with the USB adapter I have got). It also means I can get comfortable and use it to surf this site without having any probs from my back.

I probably wont be after much I only play Medieval, i'm sure if I understood how to pay for wow (and shadow of angmar and age of reckoning) I would play it:)
Mainly I would want a lap top for writing my stories and also media player, so basic stuff really.

The acre is a nice little machine, my IT Director here at work has one. It has a Blu-Ray drive and HDMI output so can be used to watch hi def films on your TV. Also it plays WoW without much of a prob. Keep an eye out on this site www.Misco.co.uk (http://www.misco.co.uk/), they have had some corker offers on some of their laptops.

Most of my buying is done between Misco (http://www.misco.co.uk) and eBuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com) (not ebay), although my new laptop has come from a company that supplies stores like Aldi and Sainsbury's with their computer stuff (Medion Shop (http://www.medionshop.co.uk) and Medion Home (http://www.medion.co.uk))

I have a HP dv9700.
It's good for Runescape and that's what matters! It;ll play some of the more advanced games but I'm after saving for something high end so I can play Black and White 2 without a slowdown >.<

Grats on the new lappie!

I know. Paid £75 for the old one, got £309 back from insurance, threw another £200 at the new one (which arrived yesterday). Got it playing World of Warcraft without any probs at all. It did crumble trying to play Crysis, got about 9fps with everything turned down to low.

Also had it hooked up to the 32" LCD in the room as it has an HDMI port on it. Nice to see those DivX films at a viewable size. ;)

Just got to suffer for a couple of years now cos we signed up with British Gas home care and when they came out to inspect the fire and other gas appliances, they condemned the fire and the cooker, which means we have had to rake in all our savings and a few outstanding debts to have the central heating replaced (£2000 which should be completed today) and the gas cooker replaced (£280) so not been a cheep fortnight at all.

But at least I have my new lappy to comfort me by getting our lasss out of my hair while I get back into WoW on my main machine, it's worth every penny just for the nagless nights I can have online.

booo WoW.. i bought a dell inspiron 1520 earlier in the year, pretty okish, vista seems to wanna use a gig just to run though so really we got a 1g laptop, and wouldnt play FFXI, it had/has some stupid intel family chipset graphics card instead of your usual nvidea, so i had to get someone to remote access it and roll back graphics till it would play, now however it wont play video files. sooooooo if i wanna watch media i gots to install the graphics update, then system restore when i want to game online.... wouldnt be to bad if the only reason i bought it wasn't... to play games and watch videos.. >.<

FFXI FTW!

I've had about 5 or 6 months off WoW. Sticks took up all my time during those months. But now that I have the sticks sorted and know enough about them, they have taken a back seat to my night time WoW'ing expeditions.
